Public Forum This is an opportunity for members of the audience to speak on an item not on the agenda. The 10 minute period will be divided evenly between those wishing to address the Committee.
Regular Agenda –
- Introduction of New Committee Member
- Update on Get Ready, Piedmont Guides and Checklist
- Update on School Liaison Activities and Campus Safety Preparedness – This may include discussion of hiring a Police Officer for the School District.
- Update on Crime Prevention/Community Outreach – This is likely a discussion of the expenditure of over $500,000 in COPS funding to be used by the City of Piedmont.
- Update on Neighborhood Meetings
- Update on Public Safety Camera Subcommittee

At the Public Safety Committee meeting, the following information was released:
-The grant application submitted by the Police Department for the School Reserve Officer will likely be decided on shortly. City Council will address the SRO position at a January Council meeting.
– A seminar on how to protect seniors from financial fraud will be presented on December 5. Contact ascott@piedmont.ca.gov for more information.
– Robberies in Piedmont through September 2018 (8) were up from that over the same period in 2017 (1).
– Three “Map Your Neighborhood Earthquake Preparedness” meetings were held since the last Public Safety Committee (PSC) meeting. Residents are encouraged to establish a MYN program for their neighborhood. Contact smarsh@piedmont.ca.gov.
– Camera Systems: The PSC subcommittee met for the first time on November 1. A December meeting of the subcommittee will be scheduled. The subcommittee is planning a field trip to the City of San Pablo to observe their camera system. The subcommittee is studying what is the best public outreach approach to engage residents about public safety cameras – open house, online survey etc. Subcommittee meetings are not public meetings and not open to the public so residents are encouraged to contact the Police Chief at jbowers@piedmont.ca.gov with their ideas.
– Multiple Police Department retirements were announced.
– The Fire Department will likely be giving a presentation on its participation in fighting the Camp Fire in Paradise at the next PSC meeting in January.
