The expected District shortage over the next 2 years has been reduced to $4 million from the $5 million previously expected, according to Assistant School Superintendent Michael Brady at the October 27th Board of Education meeting. This good news results from increased Federal and State funding allocations for Piedmont schools. Cost savings have not yet been addressed and mid-year cuts later this year may still be necessary. The Piedmont Middle School Parents’ Club is asking a parent from each PMS family to attend a meeting on Thursday, November 18 from 7 to 9 p.m. at the PMS Multipurpose Room. Contractor and Piedmont resident Neil Teixeira wrote to the City Council and PHUUD Audit Subcommittee, calling attention to the Cal-Trans Bidding Guidelines, California Public Bidding Laws, Piedmont City Charter section 4.11, California Business & Professional Code section 20415 and California Public Contract Code sections 20161 & 20162. His letter, which raises his concerns regarding oversight and legal issues of the bidding process, was published on November 5, 2010 on the editorial page in the Piedmonter.

At its meeting on November 1st, the Piedmont City Council adopted the first reading of an ordinance to amend Chapter 17 F.1 of the Piedmont Municipal Code regarding property disclosure statements. In short, this ordinance will require anyone who sells an interest in real property in Piedmont to furnish a copy of a “Property Records Search” to a buyer of the property.

The responses to 850 public comments, prepared by consultants LSA of Point Richmond, Benson Lee, Consulting, and the Piedmont Recreation and Planning Departments, have been posted. (Read Responses to 850 public comments.) The comments were submitted in response to the June 2010 Draft Environmental Impact Report on the Moraga Canyon Sports Complex published November 5. The City Council will hold public hearings on the consultants’ and the City’s responses on Monday, November 15 and Monday, December 6, 2010 in the Piedmont Veterans Hall at 401 Highland Avenue starting at 7:30pm.
